Mother Teresa

The New York State Office for New Americans (ONA), established in 2012, aims to welcome immigrants and support their journey toward achieving the American Dream. Through its extensive network of community-based providers, ONA fosters community engagement by assisting all new Americans in accessing and navigating a range of free services, while also encouraging political activism to ensure their inclusion as an essential part of New York State’s diverse cultural fabric.

Since 1967, the Economic Opportunity Program, Inc. of Chemung and Schuyler Counties (EOP) has aimed to fulfill its vision and mission to co-create a community where all people live with dignity and have the opportunity to lead economically productive and satisfying lives. Through strong community engagement and political activism, EOP serves as a 501(c)(3) Community Action Organization dedicated to assisting thousands of residents in the Southern Tier. What do we do? We do people. Click on the link below to find out what that means.

Office Hours: Mondays through Fridays 8:30am to 4:30pm. This office engages with the community by providing temporary cash assistance, assistance in paying for food, heating assistance, and overseeing New York State's child support enforcement program. Additionally, we focus on political activism by determining certain aspects of eligibility for Social Security Disability benefits, supervising homeless housing and services programs, and providing assistance to certain immigrant populations.

All transportation services for Schuyler County residents are coordinated through Transportation Link-Line, where trained staff will provide free information and assistance to connect residents with transportation options. This initiative not only supports individual needs, such as transportation for medical appointments, grocery shopping, and hair appointments, but also fosters community engagement by ensuring that everyone has access to essential services. Additionally, the Transportation Link-Line encourages political activism by empowering residents through free travel training and assistance with trip planning.

Our purpose is to empower refugees and immigrants by providing vital support and resources for their journey toward self-sufficiency. With a strong commitment to community engagement and creating resilient communities, we offer programs in resettlement, education, employment, and immigration legal services. Explore our site to learn how you can get involved in political activism, make an impact, or access our services. Together, we can turn compassion into action.

Are you in need of free groceries or a hot meal? Engage with your community by using the map to search by your address or ZIP code, and discover food pantries, meal sites, shelters, or mobile food distributions near you in the Southern Tier. This initiative not only helps those in need but also promotes political activism through community engagement.
Victory for the people in the siege of Minnesota! What this means for the fight over ICE and DHS funding in congress. And why challenging do-nothing Democrats in primaries now isn’t just about the future - it’s about building a unified, fighting opposition against the fascists today. As always, live Q&A about strategy, tactics, messaging, and organizing.
Dismantle DHS and start over!
Trump and his goons are talking more and more about subverting the election. Leah calmly walks us through our mantra: they’re going to lose. Ezra goes over what we can do to stiffen Dem spines in the life fight over DHS funding this next week. And as always, we discuss your questions about strategy, tactics, messaging, and whether our cat would ever attend a protest (spoiler: no).
So what can we actually do about ICE?
ICE’s terror campaign is escalating. But Democrats in Congress have a rare opportunity to rein them in. What’s the plan? We’re mobilizing for a National Day of Solidarity with Minneapolis on Friday, January 23rd, we’re yelling at GOP members of Congress for backing this fascist regime, and we’re yelling at Democrats in Congress to fight back while they have the chance. And as always, we’re taking your top-voted questions in real time.
The onslaught of news, the chaos coming out of the White House – it’s all meant to overwhelm us. It’s a deliberate strategy to sow confusion and make us believe we are powerless to fight back.
The antidote: Coming together in community to process what’s happening, to sift through what’s important and what’s just noise, and coalesce around strategies for fighting back.

As President Trump escalates his attempts to control us, it is on us, the people, to show that we will fight to protect one another and our country. If he believes we will roll over and allow him to take our freedoms, he is mistaken. We are coming together again on March 28 because we know we can overcome this repression when we unite.
